Seminar | Current Trends in the Production of Urban Space
People, Jobs, and Public Transit in Eastern Mexico City
November 11, 2018 | Mexico City
This research is an inquiry into the political economy of the state in urban infrastructure provision and the socioeconomic implications of such role. The case of public transit provision in Mexico City is studied. I hypothesize that the role of the state has shifted from a direct provider of urban welfare through public transit infrastructure to a regulator of public transport markets and, as a consequence, the city faces increasing landscapes of spatial injustice in access to public transport.
